Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Home Inspection?

A non-invasive, visual examination of a residential dwelling. AJS Home Inspections, provides our clients with an easy to understand, interactive, thorough written report identifying defects that change
the value of the home.

What Will a Home Inspection Cost?

Fees vary based on location, size, ancillary services (radon testing and/or water analysis) requested and/or required by the client, mortgage lender or attorney.

Can I do the Inspection Myself?

When a situation requires a professional, it is best to hire a
professional. There are so many aspects to a proper home inspection, that unless you have
training in the field, you can’t be sure that you are not overlooking a potential problem.

Why do I Need a Home Inspection?

As a buyer, the process of purchasing a home can be emotional, if not overwhelming. This purchase could be your single largest investment in your lifetime. AJS Home Inspections offers an unbiased, non-emotional evaluation of the home helping you be confident about your decision for years to come.

What is Radon, and Does AJS Home Inspections Test for it?

Radon is a colorless, odorless, invisible gas that can only be detected through the use of proper equipment and protocols. Chronic exposure to elevated radon levels has been linked to an increased incidence of lung cancer. The risk to children is  twice as high than in adults, as well as, studies shown potential early developmental issues in children.

Radon testing is a service we provide. We partner with a dedicated lab for precise test results to ensure peace of mind.

Can a House Fail Inspection?

Absolutely not. Professional home inspections completed by
licensed home inspectors are an examination of current conditions of the residence you are
considering. This inspection is not an appraisal, we do not determine current market values and
we do not verify current code compliance requirements. Home inspectors do not pass or fail a
residence, but describe the condition and safety aspects of the home the day of inspection.

Do I Need to Attend the Inspection?

It is not required, however, It is
always recommended the purchaser to be in attendance. We provide a walk through service
directly after the reporting process is completed. The walk through will enable you to better
understand the home inspection report and give you the opportunity to ask any questions.

When do I call in the Home Inspector?

Typically your realtor and/or attorney will help guide
you through this process. Before signing a contract or a purchase agreement obligation, the
home inspection should be completed. The contract, purchase agreement are contingent upon
the findings of the professional home inspection report.

How Long does a Home Inspection Take?

Depending on the size of the home and ancillary
services to be completed, the inspection should take between 3 & 4 hours.
